HPS board debates building projects

Hastings Board of Education members walked a thin line Thursday as they talked about supporting a $400,000 building project at the high school while remembering that the elementary facilities are their main priority.

In November, Hastings High Athletic Booster Club president David Long presented the board with a proposal to build a new weight room adjacent to the gym on the north side of the high school.

The booster club already has raised $30,000 and would like to eventually raise all the money for the facility.

At Thursday’s board work session, Jeff Schneider, the district’s director of finance, and Trent Kelly, the director of operations and technology, unveiled the preliminary plans for the proposed weight room.
