Committee recommends 5-elementary proposal

Hastings Public Schools is one step closer to having a plan in place for the future of its elementary system.

On Monday, the Community Facilities Advisory Committee made an official recommendation to the Hastings Board of Education.

The recommendation, based on a year of work by the committee and a community survey, is to move forward with a five-elementary system leaving the Morton Elementary building intact as a reserve facility for future district needs.

Each of the five remaining elementary buildings — Alcott, Hawthorne, Lincoln, Longfellow and Watson — would receive the necessary updates and additions to create full three-section schools.
