For Mary Lanning Healthcare and eight other Nebraska hospitals, the idea of working together to reduce patient hospital expenses while improving patient care is finally beginning to materialize.
In the works for a number of years, the Regional Provider Network, which is still in the planning stages, would give the nine independent hospitals more buying power in the health care marketplace.
Eric Barber, president and CEO of Mary Lanning, said the alliance will give the hospitals a collaborative way to navigate changes in health care that will accommodate implementation of the Affordable Care Act.
“Geographically, it’s nine hospitals that go all the way across the state," he said. "The network represents a pretty good cross-section of physicians and a level of collaboration that personally I’ve never seen in my 12-year career.”
