The Tribland's first significant snowfall of the season fell short of a record, but not by much.
Living up to the blizzard warning issued by the National Weather Service in Hastings — its first such warning since the Christmas Day snowstorm in 2009 — the storm kept Hastings Street Department workers on the job throughout the night and into the morning.
Snow continued to fall near the airport early this morning, adding to the 8.1-inch snowfall that began at 12:17 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. The snow total was just 2 inches shy of the daily record, when 10 inches of snow was recorded in 1973, said Phil Beta, hydro meteorological technician for NWS.
"It was pretty much as forecasted," Beta said.
