furniture. A Jack and Jill adjoined Tempo to the north.

Then: The Western Mall Shopping Center, at the 900 block of South Burlington Avenue, opened to much fanfare.

When the 45,000-square-foot Tempo department store opened March 20, 1968, executives from the Tempo Division of the store's parent company, Gamble-Skogmo, flew in from Minneapolis for the occasion.
With the department store on the south end and a Jack and Jill grocery store, which opened the same day, to the north it was a popular shopping spot for many in the Hastings area.

Now: The building that now houses Aaron's Sales and Lease Ownership, Sun Mart grocery store, Furniture Direct and Sears stores once housed the "Walmart at that time."
