Kiwanis bowling tournament gives kids a break from holiday vacation

Michael Welsh, 6, tries to place his fingers just right while
taking his turn during the Kiwanis bowling tournament
Saturday at Pastime Lanes.

Some children granny bowled by squatting down with the bowling ball in both hands and rolling it down the wooden lane.

Others chose the standard bowling form but still wobbled as they tried maneuvering with balls larger than most of their heads.

Sometimes, the balls stayed on the lane and knocked down pins. Others found themselves in the gutters, though the youngest bowlers used the alley bumpers. There were more gutter balls at the beginning of the tournament as the children figured out how to best handle the bowling balls and tried out different sizes to see which one worked best.
