FAIRFIELD — One of the more anticipated college announcements from a Tribland player this season is now official, as Sandy Creek standout Mikaela Shaw has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Shaw, a two-time member of the All-Tribland girls basketball first team and the 2011 Tribland player of the year, made her decision as part of the early signing period. She joined three other Maverick recruits in signing last week and is the only signee so far from Nebraska.

"I spent a lot of time making this decision. I took my time and visited all of the other colleges. But UNO is changing a lot of things, so there's a lot of new and exciting stuff coming there," Shaw said. "It seems like something I would really like to be a part of. And I really like the coaches. They attracted me to there ... talking to them persuaded me the most."
