AC drops duel to defending Class C champs

Adams Central's Dylan Gilliland wrestles Central City's Andrew
Myers in their 132-pound match Thursday night in Hastings.

The Adams Central wrestling team had a tough task in its first competition of the season. The Patriots opened with a duel against defending Class C state champion Central City.

The duel ended with 10 total pins, eight of which were in the first period. Both teams were tied going into the final two matches, but the Bison earned two straight pins to take the match 45-33.

"We just have to be tougher and mentally tougher, especially with our juniors and seniors," said Adams Central head coach Dan Lonowski. "We expect those guys to step up to the plate and go out and wrestle. We lost some matches to average wrestlers tonight that we thought we should have won."
