BLUE HILL — Shortly after capping the 2013 football campaign with a Class C-2 state championship and an unbeaten season, the Doniphan-Trumbull boys opened its season with an 88-45 victory over Blue Hill (0-2) on Friday evening.
After the end of a long football season, the Cardinals (1-0) only had five organized practices. D-T head coach Steve Hartman credited his veteran group, which is led by seven seniors on the team.
Senior Creighton Buhr ignited the Cardinals with a game-high 23 points on 11-of-17 shooting, which included three crowd-pleasing slam dunks. Two of those slams came off alley-oop passes from fellow senior Jordan Slough. Slough finished with six assists and four points.
