Tigers fall to Class B No. 1

Hastings High's Ben Claussen rebounds against Elkhorn
South's Aaron Hardy Saturday afternoon in Hastings.

A new mercy rule was set in place before this Nebraska prep basketball season began— that is, once one team gains a 40-point lead, the clock continues to run and only stops for injuries or timeouts.

The Hastings High boys basketball team experienced the wrong end of the new ruling Saturday, as it fell behind 66-26 late in the third quarter and eventually fell to Class B No. 1 Elkhorn South 75-29.

"I mean, they're good. (Elkhorn South) is No. 1 for a reason," Creech said. "They just come at you in so many different ways."
