Saturday’s top-10 showdown between the preseason Class C-2 No. 7 St. Cecilia girls basketball team and No. 10 Blue Hill featured a pair of 3-0 teams and looked to be an intriguing matchup. And it was — for the first half.
The Hawkettes’ defense came through again for STC and the offense exploded in the third quarter, outscoring Blue Hill 17-4 en route to a 47-28 victory at Chapman Gymnasium.
“I think we played some solid defense. We kept them out of the lane, out of the paint and maybe forced a turnover or two. And I think our offensive execution was better,” STC coach Jahn Kile said. “Anytime you put all of those things together, it’s amazing how it shows up on the scoreboard.”
The teams went into the locker room tied 15-all at the half. But St. Cecilia (4-0) came out firing in the second half, going on a 7-0 run in the first two minutes with a 3-pointer from junior Josie Jackson and two buckets from junior Morgan Nikkila and freshman Shandra Farmer.
