ROSELAND — Red Cloud gave Silver Lake plenty to handle Saturday. And the Mustangs proved worthy, holding on for a 40-35 boys basketball victory.
Silver Lake (3-2) grabbed a two-point lead with three minutes remaining and kept the Warriors scoreless the rest of the way to eke out a Twin Valley Conference win.
Mustang sophomore Seyler Monroe sank a running jump shot to break a 35-all tie, then Silver Lake made three of four free throws down the stretch for its second straight win.
“It was a hard-fought conference game,” Silver Lake coach Terry Bauer said. “It really came down to us being aggressive, getting to the basket and then in turn getting to the free-throw line.”
