The St. Cecilia and Blue Hill boys basketball teams seemed to be going down the same path to start the season. Both began 0-2 and looked to be turning things around in their first victories of the season — the Bobcats defeated Superior 61-28 Thursday and the preseason Class C-2 No. 6 Bluehawks knocked off No. 3 Doniphan-Trumbull 44-31 Friday.
But on Saturday, it was St. Cecilia that took a step forward.
The Bluehawks rolled to a 59-31 victory over Blue Hill (1-2) at Chapman Gymnasium. After leading 11-9 at the end of the first quarter, St. Cecilia (2-2) dominated the second — scoring 22 points while allowing just two.
“The second quarter was big for us because we thought we got a little more of a defensive stance and really started to do some of the things we wanted to do,” STC coach Kevin Asher said. “They’re a good basketball team. ... But in the second and third, I thought we became more aggressive, and our offense got into a flow.”
