Face of Sports: Brian Bassett

Former St. Cecilia basketball player Brian Bassett takes a
jump shot in January, 1974.

Brian Bassett never considered himself a stellar athlete at St. Cecilia during his playing days in the mid-1970s.

At 5-foot-11, 135 pounds "soaking wet," he possessed quickness and a reliable jump shot from 20 feet and was once described by a Tribune columnist as a "steady guard."

On the gridiron, one of his best memories is a reception of a tipped pass late in the fourth quarter to beat new rival Sandy Creek, 7-6, in 1973.
