STC boys knock off Cardinals

St. Cecilia's Zach Kitten shoots against Doniphan-Trumbull's
Creighton Buhr Friday in Doniphan.

DONIPHAN — Before the season began, St. Cecilia boys basketball coach Kevin Asher knew his team could play its best basketball and still start the year 0-3 — that's how good the Bluehawks' first three opponents were.
Fortunately for Asher and St. Cecilia, they're not 0-3.

The Bluehawks beat Class C-2 No. 4 Doniphan-Trumbull 52-43 on Friday thanks to a strong defensive effort in the second half.

Asher said it felt good to get STC's first win.

"Our kids have shown a lot of resiliency. We knew at the start of the season we were going to face three of the better teams in their class," Asher said.
