SUTTON — It's been a long time since Sutton beat St. Cecilia in boys basketball.

"I'll put it this way, it seems like forever," said Mustang head coach Steve Spongberg.

Nebraska Schools Activities Association online records go as far back as the 2003 season, and since then, the Bluehawks had their way with Sutton by going 6-0.

Something finally had to go the way of the preseason Class C-2, No. 2 Mustangs (5-0). A sensational scoring effort from senior Austan Rath helped the school notch a rare 48-43 win over preseason No. 6 STC (2-3) Friday night in Sutton.

Rath had 32 points — exactly two-thirds of Sutton's offensive production — and he did it against what he thought was one of the better defenses he's faced this season.
