HHS girls earn first win

The Hastings High and Columbus girls basketball teams traded leads seven times in the second half, but the Tigers took control in the last couple of minutes.

Sophomore Sophia Pankratz hit a jumper to give the lead back to HHS at 29-28, and that's all the Tigers would need. The Discoverers (1-3) went 0-for-5 from the field the rest of the way, and blew a key free throw opportunity after being sent to the line in the bonus.

Senior Bailey Petzoldt capped off the 31-28 win when she was fouled after grabbing a defensive rebound and hit two free throws in the final seconds.

The win is the first for Hastings High (1-3) this season, and just the third from the start of last year. And head coach Greg Mays couldn't relax until the clock turned off.
