GRAND ISLAND — The city of Grand Island was the wrestling focal point of Nebraska on Friday and Saturday when 32 teams gathered from four different states at the Heartland Events Center to compete at the Flatwater Fracas.

The competition from Nebraska was strong enough, with 14 Class A teams, 11 Class B teams and three Class C squads. In addition, there was a Class 6-A Manhattan, Kan., team, Cheyenne East (a Class 4-A school from Wyo.), Ralston Valley and Weld Central — a 5-A and 4-A school from Colorado, respectively. Of the Nebraska teams competing, 16 finished in the top 10 in their respective classes at last year’s state tournament, including nine of the top-10 in Class A.

Three Tribland teams were there in Adams Central, Hastings High and Doniphan-Trumbull
After winning one of four duals on day one, Adams Central won all three of its contests on the second day, defeating Grand Island Central Catholic 71-12, Lincoln Southeast 53-21 and Holdrege 45-33 to finish 4-3 in the tournament. Hastings High finished the tournament 3-4, with both of its losses on Saturday being by a combined four points. Doniphan-Trumbull was 1-6 in the tournament.
