MINDEN — Coming into the season, the Minden boys basketball team knew it was going to be outmatched when it came to size. But six games into the season, the Whippets mostly had been able to overcome their lack of size.
The Whippets weren’t able to Monday, though, falling to Class C-1 preseason No. 4 Boone Central/Newman Grove 56-44. Minden took a one-point lead midway through the fourth quarter, but the Cardinals were just too much to handle.
“The fourth quarter is a battle of will, not a battle of skill. I think (Boone Central/Newman Grove’s) will to win those last couple of minutes was greater than ours was tonight,” said Minden head coach Shannon Lovin. “I know we were tired, but they were tired, too. We should be in better shape than them. We just didn’t get it done. They played well, so hats off to them. They’re a good team.”
