Hawkettes roll in top-10 matchup

St. Cecilia's Clare Hamburger tries to gain control of the
ball after it was knocked loose by Sandy Creek's Mikaela
Shaw Friday night in Fairfield.

That's the best word to describe St. Cecilia's style of defense — in your face, always pushing to get the basketball. This time, Sandy Creek was the victim.

The preseason Class C-2 No. 7 Hawkettes finished with 18 steals, while also forcing their opponent to commit 30 turnovers, en route to a comfortable 53-28 win over preseason Class C-1 No. 3 Sandy Creek Friday night in Fairfield.

The Hawkettes improve to 6-0, and now hold opposing offenses to an average of just 29.6 points per game. Sandy Creek drops its second consecutive game to sit 5-3. Both losses are against teams that are a combined 13-1.
