HARVARD — The 15 girls on Wilcox-Hildreth's roster have never been part of a championship in basketball before Saturday's Harvard holiday tournament finale.
For years, the Falcons have had to utilize a 2-3 zone defense because they couldn't run with other teams. In the 33-25 win over Lawrence-Nelson, Wilcox-Hildreth's ability to run the man-to-man defense showed the progress the program has made over the last few years after going 0-19 in 2011.
The Falcons (6-0) limited the Raiders (4-4) to just one point in the first quarter and three points in the third quarter, while also grabbing nearly double the amount of rebounds, 37-20, in the process.
"That's what we focused on. What won it for us was our defense — we played great man-to-man defense," Wilcox-Hildreth head coach Dave Mroczek said.
