AURORA — Class B No. 5 Beatrice couldn’t find a shot against St. Cecilia’s defense at the start of their matchup Monday in the Aurora holiday tournament.
The Bluehawks’ 2-3 zone caused the Orangemen problems, as their first possession of the game lasted a minute without a single shot attempted and ended in a steal.
But Beatrice’s offense wouldn’t be held in check for long. The Orangemen connected on 9-of-17 3-pointers and utilized a crucial 10-1 midway through the second half to earn a 52-41 victory.
“I thought our effort was outstanding. We just made too many mistakes,” said STC head coach Kevin Asher, whose team dropped to 4-3 on the year after snapping a four-game win streak. “You have to credit Beatrice — they’re a perennial Class B power. They forced us into some mistakes that I think we can fix.”
