How high will gas go?

Gas prices are up, down, and all around in Nebraska, depending on where you happen to fill up.

In Beatrice, commuters are paying a hefty $3.51 per gallon on the average for self-serve unleaded with no ethanol, while Alliance drivers are coming in at less than $3 per gallon at $2.99. In Hastings, where the price has risen about 30 cents in the past two weeks alone, the average cost is $3.43.

Rose White, spokeswoman for AAA Nebraska's home office in Omaha, said the price disparity between communities lies in where the gasoline is purchased and how it is being delivered. Gasoline provided from the Rocky Mountain Refinery area — where prices are among the lowest in the nation — is keeping prices on the western end of the state low.
