It wasn't until the final event Saturday that Hastings Kiwanis sealed its team victory in the 2014 Service Club Olympics at the Hastings Family YMCA.

Ignatius Ewool defeated George Howard, both Kiwanians, in a game of ping pong.

That match-up helped the Kiwanis edged Hastings Noon Sertoma 114-103 to take home a large, orange sign declaring Kiwanis members champions.

"I was really nervous that Kiwanis was not going to bring this one home," organizer Gwen Ruppert, who is also a Kiwanis member, said after the closing ceremony. "Sertoma came on like gangbusters. I'm pleased with the results, but just the spirit of the games was overwhelming. I appreciated everyone who was here. Everyone did their part representing their clubs, so it was just a lot of fun."
