Blustery conditions create snow removal issues

resident, who moved here from Hawaii, plays with area

Although Hastings and the surrounding area didn't see shocking snowfall levels Tuesday, cold temperatures and strong, gusty winds left residents and street crews donning boots and fighting drifts well into this morning.

The effects of minimal precipitation were compounded by chilling temperatures that are expected to stick around for much of the week, said Julia Berg, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Hastings.

"In 24 hours, we had .11 inches of liquid precipitation in Hastings, so it was pretty dry snow," Berg said.

In all, the city of Hastings had 3.2 inches of snow fall during the event as compared to 2.5 inches in Grand Island and about 8 inches in Hubbell in Thayer County.
