State Patrol investigates Fairfield city office

FAIRFIELD — The city office here has been operating on a limited basis after possible improprieties were discovered during an annual audit and subsequent investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol.

"The auditors found some misappropriation of funds or something, they think, so we had to go through with the investigation," Mayor Lynn Ridgway said during an interview this morning.

The city's contracted auditing firm, whose name Ridgway did not disclose, conducted the audit. Ridgway hasn't heard much about the investigation himself.

"Nothing really yet," he said. "The State Patrol is investigating it and they haven't gotten back with us, so I don't know anything yet."
