125-year-old building keeps up with the times

The building at 111 N. Burlington Ave. has undergone many
renovations since it was built in 1887 as an investment
speculative building. The first floor currently is occupied by
Winkel-bauer Photog-raphy and Provident Promo-tions.

For many years, much of the building at 111 N. Burlington has stood idle.

Office space was in use on the first floor, but the second and third floors stood empty.

Six years ago, owner Roy DeMars decided to restore the building to create a living area for him and his wife.

"I finally got to the age where I was going to do something with it or die," he said.

With the historic significance of the building, DeMars felt it important to restore the building.

The structure at 109 and 111 N. Burlington Ave. is actually two separate buildings with two owners. DeMars owns the northern third of the building.
