A feasibility study called for by Adams County Convention & Visitors Bureau and Hastings Economic Development Corporation will explore what it will take to build a new convention center in Hastings.
The decision to move forward follows a preliminary study prepared for the Visitor's Bureau and HEDC in January by VenuWorks, an Iowa-based management service and consulting company. The study will focus on meeting the perceived needs of the community for hosting meetings and events and how best to fund the venue.
"The goal of this study will be to research demand for conference space and bringing it into the community," said Kaleena Fong, Visitors Bureau executive director. "We'll also look at potential sites and potential funding and what other communities have.
"We're not only looking at how much a facility would cost to build, but how much it would cost to operate on an annual basis and our current climate in terms of meeting venues and what we currently have to offer meeting planners looking for ballroom space in addition to breakout space. We want to make sure we're not in competition with exhibit space already available at Adams County Fairgrounds."
