After a lifetime of driving without accidents, Charles Smith of Hastings opposes a bill that would require extra testing for the oldest Nebraska drivers.
At age 88, he has spent his life on the road between 30 years hauling freight and another 20 years driving school buses.
Smith hit the 1 million-mile mark without an accident during his 10 years with one freight company, Consolidated Freightways. Between his other freight jobs and school bus driving, he estimates he has spent around 2 million miles on the road — with an accident.
