"Spondylus," a painting by Hastings College Art Department
chairman Turner McGehee, was stolen Sunday afternoon.
The Hastings College Art Department is looking for answers following the theft Sunday of one of the pieces on display in the college's art gallery.
"Spondylus," an 18-by-24-inch painting that is part of department chairman Turner McGehee's art exhibition, went missing sometime Sunday afternoon from the gallery off of Seventh Street near Elm Avenue. McGehee's 24-piece collection is on display through the end of February.
McGehee wrote in an emailed response to questions that "Spondylus" looks like a bead necklace made from seashell discs strung like puka beads.
"We think it happened last Sunday afternoon, possibly around 2:30 p.m.," he said. "That was when we noticed that something was missing. The gallery guard was fairly sure that nothing was missing when she came on duty at 1 p.m."
Anyone with information about the missing painting can contact the Hastings Police Department at 402-461-2380 or McGehee at tmcgehee@hastings.edu.
