New CT Scanner addition at MLH a 'woo hoo' moment

The most advanced CT scan system in Nebraska is providing patients at Mary Lanning Memorial Healthcare the most consistently high quality diagnostic images available — and with 60 percent less radiation exposure than conventional CT systems, to boot.

The Siemens SOMATOM Definition Edge CT installed last week already has scanned some 30 patients during its trial period this week, with staff members from Siemens overseeing the scans. Two of Mary Lanning's 11 CT technicians traveled to North Carolina earlier this month to receive training on the system. They will bring the rest of the staff up to speed on how it works beginning Monday.

Equipped with the world's first fully integrated Stellar Detector, the 128-slice CT machine delivers clear, detailed images with up to 60 percent less radiation than standard systems. A 78 cm opening allows for added patient access and positioning to accommodate most patient types and sizes, with an increase in weight limit from 450 to 500 pounds.
