A plow clears snow from Burlington Avenue during Thursday's
snowstorm.
The 10 inches of snow that fell on Hastings Thursday was light and fluffy, which made clearing it a breeze compared to the heavy, wet snow that fell in December.
City street superintendent Dick Douglas said crews worked all night and had all main and residential streets cleared by 7 a.m. today.
"There might be one or two we might have missed, but we'll hear about it," Douglas said jokingly.
Crews started moving snow during the day Thursday to keep the snow routes clear. Halfway through clearing the snow routes a second time, workers could see the end of the storm and then moved into residential areas, he said.
"It was actually a nice snow to move," Douglas said.
"It wasn't sticky, and it was light."
Rain preceded the Dec. 19, 2012, storm, leaving streets extremely icy underneath a heavy, wet blanket of snow.
