EDGAR — The city shop building here was destroyed in a fire Tuesday night.
Members of Edgar Fire and Rescue responded to the fire at 10:10 p.m. and had it under control in about 20 minutes.
Mayor Brad Brennfoerder, a member of the Edgar fire department, said the cause of the fire, which started in the northeast corner of a building he described as an oversized three-car garage, is unknown and that it still is under investigation.
Although the fire was small, the wooden-frame building, in the southwest corner of downtown, sustained significant smoke damage.
No injuries were reported.
The building contained shop tools and supplies plus a mini excavator, loader and a service van.
The extent of damage to that equipment isn't known yet.
"We're just working with the insurance company now, so we really haven't been able to assess anything yet," Brennfoerder said.
