Grants make home repairs, home ownership possible

Home ownership or home repair may not be out of reach for low-income households thanks to the Housing Development Corporation.

The south central Nebraska organization currently has about $500,000 to help buy a house or make improvements to an existing home.

Linda Addison, executive director for the Housing Development Corporation, said qualifying individuals and families can receive financial assistance for buying a first home or making home repairs and improvements.

With the first-time homebuyers program, individuals and families can apply for up to $20,000 in down payment assistance.

Addison said the program benefits both the individual household as well as the economy of a community.
