Bobcats capture second straight TVC title

Blue Hill's Mackenzie Willicott shoots against
Deshler's Lauren Schmidt in the Twin Valley
Conference championship Saturday night in
Hastings.

The matchup in the girls final of the Twin Valley Conference basketball championship featured two teams that rely heavily on their defenses.

Class D-2 No. 3 Deshler entered the game against Blue Hill giving up just 25.3 points per game. The Class C-2 No. 7 Bobcats were allowing just 29.8.

Both head coaches knew there wasn’t going to be a lot of offense — and that’s exactly what happened Saturday night at Adams Central.

Blue Hill (17-2) held on in the final minute for a gritty 27-26 win, capturing its second-straight conference crown.

That decision, though, wasn’t sealed until Blue Hill sophomore Lenae Kohmestscher intercepted a pass in Deshler’s last possession.
