NELSON — The Red Cloud girls basketball team benefited Monday from hot shooting in the first half and stingy defense in the fourth quarter.
The Warriors defeated Lawrence-Nelson to move on to the semifinals of the Twin Valley Conference tournament. Red Cloud held the Raiders to just two field goals in the final period to hang on for a 35-28 victory.
"We stress a lot on the defense. It was nice to see everyone helping out," said Red Cloud head coach Casey Fangmeyer. "(Lawrence-Nelson is) a pretty athletic group. They have some guards who created a mismatch problem for us. We had to rely on someone else stepping in and rotating. We work a lot on that, so it was good to see it come through tonight."
