St. Cecilia's Jameson Esch shoots Tuesday.
It had been nearly seven years since the last time the Adams Central boys basketball team defeated crosstown rival St. Cecilia, with the Bluehawks winning seven straight over the Patriots.
That came to an end Tuesday night.
Adams Central was more aggressive down the stretch and hit clutch free throws to hold on to a 56-50 victory over St. Cecilia at Chapman Gymnasium.
"(This game) is important to both schools. The thing I like about it is our kids genuinely respect St. Cecilia, and I think it's mutual," said AC head coach Zac Foster, whose team improved to 17-4. "It means a lot to get a win for our school and for our seniors. I'm very, very proud of our seniors.
"We haven't beat St. Cecilia in a long time, and it was one of the goals we had. I know it means a lot for our seniors and they deserve it."
