NELSON — In the final 16 minutes of Lawrence-Nelson’s Twin Valley Conference tournament game against Shelton, the Raiders outscored the Bulldogs in impressive fashion.
But as every coach knows, playing hard for 16 out of 32 minutes won’t result in a victory.
Lawrence-Nelson gave Shelton a run for its money after scoring just five points in the first half. The Raiders cut a 20-5 halftime lead to just nine late in the fourth quarter. L-N more than doubled its score in the third quarter, but it couldn’t overcome its slow start, losing 51-40.
“We had probably the poorest half of basketball I’ve ever witnessed as a coach and the worst basketball I’ve ever coached as a coach in the first half,” said Lawrence-Nelson head coach Tom Jensen.
