Defense leads Broncos over Nebraska Wesleyan women

Hastings College's Laurel Zwiener goes after the ball against
Nebraska Wesleyan's Mallory Shanahan Wednesday at Lynn
Farrell Arena.

When the Hastings College women's basketball program turned to new head coach Carrie Hofstetter, it was clear from her playing days as a Bronco that she would want her team to be aggressive on defense.

It's still a work in progress for the Broncos and their first-year head coach, but Wednesday's game against Nebraska Wesleyan showcased just how far along HC has come in the coach's defensive scheme.

HC held the Prairie Wolves to just 14 points in the first half, helping the team capture a 67-40 win at Lynn Farrell Arena.

The Broncos might have been in trouble against NWU (3-20, 1-17 GPAC) if their defense hadn't played as well as it did from the start. HC only had 26 points in the first half, hitting on just 7-of-28 field goals from the floor.
