Red Cloud/Blue Hill's Garrett Sharp wrestles Minden's Quin
Rutt in their 170-pound match during the Class C, District 3
meet Saturday in Osceola.
OSCEOLA — Seven area teams had competitors in the Class C, District 3 wrestling meet at Cross County High School on Saturday, hoping for a trip to the CenturyLink Center in Omaha later this week.
Only one area school finished in the top five in the 16-team tournament, but 19 Tribland wrestlers punched a ticket to the state tournament.
Of the 19, six wrestlers were district champions. Kenesaw/Shelton had the biggest haul of the day, finishing with three district champions and one consolation champion.
"We did pretty well. There were some matches, that if we could have had back, we could have won," said head coach Joel Ferguson, whose team finished fifth with 114.5 points. "We're wrestling well right now."
Kenesaw/Shelton finished just ahead of South Central (sixth, 92.5) and Minden (seventh, 79) in the team standings. Red Cloud/Blue Hill (74.5) was eighth, while Fillmore Central (64) was ninth. Doniphan-Trumbull (37) and St. Cecilia (4) were 13th and 16th, respectively.
