Two years ago, the Hastings High wrestling team took just two wrestlers to the state tournament — the fifth straight year the Tigers had five or fewer state qualifiers.
Then, last year, the Tigers saw a surge — sending seven grapplers to Omaha.
This year, the Tigers have taken another step and are taking eight wrestlers to the Class A state tournament Thursday through Saturday in Omaha.
"I think we're getting better," fourth-year HHS head coach Brian Laux said. "I think with the numbers we have and the competition in the practice room ... we have a number of JV kids who had real nice seasons, too."
