Hastings High boys play ‘best game’

Hastings High got a solid contribution from each and every player that head boy’s basketball coach Lance Creech put on the floor in its 57-50 victory on Thursday.

“I thought it was our best game, all in all,” Creech said. “Our overall best player, Morgan Karloff, didn’t play particular well. Vinny (Schmidt) shot the ball well. Tanner Johnson came alive and gave us production out of his effort. He rebounded well and got the free-throw line. Alex Panganiban and Ben Claussen came in in the first half and gave us some really good stuff. And Sam Reimer is just a key to our defense. Ryan Kern gave us great minutes. “Up and down the line, as a team, we played well. We’ve won games where just a few play well, but, tonight, I thought they all played well and answered the bell. Addisson (Belau) did a good job getting his shoulders to the rim, squaring his body, and finishing in the paint.”

Schmidt lead all scorers with 20 points. The freshman knocked in six 3-pointers, none bigger than the three treys he had in a three minute stretch during the fourth quarter.
