FAIRFIELD — With the season on the line, the Blue Hill girls basketball team controlled the first three minutes of its game against St. Cecilia in the finals of the Class C-2, Subdistrict 9 tournament.
The Class C-2 No. 8 Bobcats developed a 4-0 lead, keeping a Hawkette offense that just scored 81 points two nights before off the scoreboard.
But, after Class C-2 No. 3 St. Cecilia (20-4) hit its first bucket of the game with 4:51 left in the first quarter, the floodgates opened. STC took control and went on to post a 59-24 win Thursday night at Sandy Creek High School.
The win sends the Hawkettes to the C2-5 District championship game where they will face Wood River (12-15). That game will be played 7 p.m. Feb. 22 at Kenesaw. The Eagles etched out a 48-43 victory over Ravenna in the C2-10 subdistrict final.
