Crusaders beat Bluehawks in physical game

St. Cecilia's Dayton Sealey tries to shoot against Grand
Island Central Catholic's John Rohweder Friday night in
Grand Island.

GRAND ISLAND — Grand Island Central Catholic’s (14-7) stingy defense held St. Cecilia (16-5) at bay in its 57-47 victory on Friday.

The Crusaders outscored the Bluehawks 18-7 in the third quarter and held on in the fourth quarter despite a furious STC comeback attempt.

“I was very proud of the effort,” STC head coach Kevin Asher said. “St. Cecilia basketball was played. It was a tough, tough game. We knew coming in that GICC was going to be as physical as they could possibly be to try and take away our shooting, and that’s how it played out. They had a full week of preparation, my hat’s off to them, they won the game fair and square.”
