OMAHA —The Adams Central wrestling team has just one competitor in the winner’s bracket after two rounds of Class B competition at the state tournament Thursday. Junior Derek Lonowski (152) advanced to the semifinals and in the process picked up his 100th career win in the quarterfinals.
“I’ve been trying to chase my brother’s (record) for wins,” said Lonowski, who improved to 40-4 on the season with his two wins Thursday. “I don’t think I’ll get there, but hopefully I can come in a close second. Hopefully I can get a couple more wins here.”
Lonwoski’s brother, Nick, holds the school record for wins in a career with 151. While that may be out of reach next season, AC head coach Dan Lonowski said that doesn’t take away from what Derek — his son — has accomplished as a junior.
“That’s a great way to get his 100th win — to medal at state for the first time,” Dan Lonowski said. “One hundred wins is a hard thing. You have to stay healthy and you have to be winning. Hats off to him.”
