OMAHA — One more win.
That's all that stands between Hastings High sophomore Nolan Laux and a 106-pound Class A state championship.
Laux hasn't just beaten the competition, he has dominated in all three matches of the state meet at the CenturyLink Center. The 16-0 technical fall in the semifinals Friday is his second consecutive to follow a major decision in round one. That momentum, and the fact he already beat his next opponent in the district tournament, has Laux's confidence soaring high.
"(I have) tons of confidence. I've been here before, which is an advantage over everybody. I have that fear factor over with," Laux said.
In the semifinals Friday evening, the unbeaten Laux recorded a quick takedown and did not let up from there. Without giving up position, Laux tallied three near falls — each worth three points — to take a commanding 11-0 lead to start the match.
