OMAHA — Mack James picked the right time to wrestle his best.
After cruising through the first two rounds with a pair of pins, the Franklin 120-pound junior won his Class D semifinals match in a 9-2 decision over Amherst's Colten Bergt 9-2 Friday evening at the state wrestling tournament at the CenturyLink Center.
"Mack has been on a tear lately. He continued to wrestle hard, and did what we needed him to do," Franklin coach Ryan Hoffman said. "He wrestled a good match. (Bergt) is a tough kid, especially for a freshman. It was a good match for Mack and we'll see if we can get it done (today)."
James was in control of his semifinals match throughout. James took a 7-2 lead in the second period after reversing position and tacking on a three-point near fall with 38 seconds remaining in the third period. James added two more points in the final period to win the match.
