District 3 meet Saturday at Adams Central.

According to Adams Central head wrestling coach Dan Lonowski, Saturday was a ‘banner day’ for the program.

The Patriots dominated the Class B, District 3 tournament in their own gym, crowning four champions and qualifying 10 wrestlers for this week’s state tournament. AC finished with 193 1/2 points, which was 38 1/2 points better than second-place Columbus Scotus.

“We’ve never sent 10 kids to state, we’ve never had four district champions and we’ve never won the district tournament,” Lonowski said. “These kids stepped up. We’ve won seven other tournaments, but we were never really healthy. Even now, it’d be nice to have a couple more kids.

“It’s very special to do it here at Adams Central. It’s just a magical moment and these kids will never forget it.”
