OMAHA — While the Adams Central wrestling team may not have gotten as many medals as it had hoped, the 2013 wrestling state tournament did end on a positive note on Saturday at the CenturyLink Center.
The Patriots had two wrestlers medal Saturday in Class B action, both placing fifth. Junior Derek Lonowski, AC's 152-pound wrestler, won his final match of the tournament after he was defeated in the semifinals and the consolation semifinals. The win built a foundation for a strong senior campaign for Lonowski.
Meanwhile, senior Tyler Joseph (138) put the finishing touches on his career by earning his first state medal with fifth place.
"Both wrestled good tournaments; both battled back and got fifth place," Adams Central head coach Dan Lonowski said. "We're happy with the results. It would have been nice to take home a couple more medals. I thought we had a couple more kids that were worthy of the medal stand, but tough weight classes and tough draws will affect that sometimes."
