AURORA — Heading into the fourth quarter down 39-25 to Grand Island Central Catholic, the Sandy Creek boys basketball team's season looked like it was on the verge of being over.
But the Cougars weren't about the pack it in.
On a night where the Cougar program would eventually have to say goodbye to a group of nine seniors, the upperclassmen left one last impression — don't give up.
Third-seeded Sandy Creek rallied and made a game that looked out of reach into one that would come down to the final minutes, with the second-seeded Crusaders escaping with a 53-42 win in the Class C-1, Subdistrict 6 semifinal Tuesday night.
GICC (12-11) will battle top-seeded and Class C-1 No. 3 Adams Central (18-5) in the subdistrict finale, currently set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Aurora.
